Despite inclement weather, many members of the CHS track and field team recorded personal-best marks in various events at Foxboro’s Warrior Invitational held last Thursday during April vacation week.

Hosted annually by Foxboro High School, the event drew hundreds of athletes from 17 area high schools.

“Members of the CHS track and field team battled the elements at the Warrior Invitational,” said head coach Anna Amico. “The cold, rain, and wind did not deter these athletes as they all competed with 100 percent effort and posted many personal-best performances and top finishes.”

The boys were led by Cordel Smith and Marquise Montes, who excelled in multiple individual events and were both part of the winning 4×100 relay team along with Gersom Rivera and Lucca Terenzio. Both also qualified for states — Smith in the high jump and Montes in the long jump — and placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-meter race.

Other standouts for the boys team included Junior Sainvil, who placed fourth in the long jump and seventh in the 100m; Shane Graham, who placed third in the 400m; and Terenzio, who took third in the triple jump.

Also posting top-10 finishes were Gerry Sullivan in the 800m (4th), Tommy Pulcini in the discus (4th), Matt Floyd in the 100m hurdles (5th), Colin Messinger in the mile (7th), Will Amico in the 110m hurdles (7th) and javelin (8th), and Chris Milne in the 800m (9th). The 4×800 relay of Sullivan, Paolo Ruggeri, Jack Healey and Graham added a third-place finish while the 4×400 team of Nick Kuk, Zach Goldstein, Floyd and Milne placed fourth.

On the girls’ side, leading point scorers included Chloe Pennacchio, who won the two-mile, placed sixth in the mile and took 10th in the shot put, and Claire Belisle, who placed first in the triple jump and fourth in the 100m hurdles.

Other top performers for Canton included Kristina Powers, who placed third in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the javelin; Maddie Rousseau, who finished fifth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the 200m and long jump; and Rosana Cho, who placed third in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump. Leianna Brune followed Powers in the 400 hurdles in fourth while Leah Murphy placed sixth in the long jump, Maggie Dunn and Jenna Hamrock took eighth in the 800m and javelin, respectively, and Claire Quinn placed ninth in the shot put.

Both Canton teams were due to return to action on Tuesday at Milford and will next host Sharon in a dual meet on Tuesday, May 1, starting at 3:45 p.m.
