Canton student-athletes excel at Archbishop Williams
By Canton CitizenThree female athletes from Canton enjoyed sensational seasons this spring at Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree.
Alessi twins shine at Archbishop Williams
Canton’s Brooke and Taylor Alessi recently received their varsity letters and Central Catholic League All-Star plaques after another outstanding season with the Archbishop Williams girls tennis team.
The freshmen twins led the Bishops for the second year in a row — they lettered as eighth graders last season — and they finished with identical records of 17-4.
Both also qualified for the MIAA south individual tournament while guiding ABW to the semifinal round of the D3 south team tournament and a 15-5 overall record.
Canton’s MacSweeney bursts onto track scene
It was a banner spring for Canton’s Erica MacSweeney, the region’s newest track and field sensation. A figure skater since the age of 5, MacSweeney decided to join the Archbishop Williams girls outdoor track team a day before the season started and became an instant star, winning the MVP of the Catholic Central League Championship Meet with a first-place finish in the triple jump and a pair of second-place finishes in the long jump and 400-meter hurdles.
She went on to medal in both the triple jump (3rd) and long jump (8th) at the MIAA Division 4 Championships and broke the school records in the triple jump and 400 hurdles. She also qualified for All-States in the triple jump and placed 22nd overall against the best of the best in Massachusetts.
