O’Connor, John P.
By Canton CitizenJohn P. O’Connor, 92, of Tolland, CT, formerly of Dorchester, Stuart, FL, and Mansfield, CT, passed away June 22 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Boston Latin, Middlebury College, Class of 1950, and was an Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He had a long and successful career in sales and marketing working for Baird Atomic, Philips, Hubbell and Brand-Rex. In 1983 he became the director of the Connecticut Small Business Development Center at UConn, a position that he held until his retirement in June of 1997.
John thoroughly enjoyed golf, boating, travel, and researching the O’Connor/Manning family tree and connecting with distant relatives.
Beloved husband of the late Elinor M. (Tierney), Mary Jo (Harkness), and Ruth (Wilding) and is survived by his dear friend and companion Janet Holloway. Father of William J. O’Connor and his wife, Patricia, of Brays Island, SC, Gail A. (O’Connor) Simmons and her husband, Charles, of Stuart, FL, Robert E. O’Connor of Tolland, CT, and Karen A. O’Connor of Killingsworth, CT. Grandfather of Lindsay, Kyle, JP, Ryan and Colin O’Connor. Brother of the late Kevin B. O’Connor and Eileen M. Barrera. Also survived by his sister-in-law Ann O’Connor and brother-in-law Dr. Sam Barrera.
