Purses, chainsaws reported stolen from vehicles
By Canton CitizenCanton police reported that two purses were taken from cars last week in separate incidents on Stratford Road and Sheffield Drive. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said that motorists should always lock their vehicles and not leave valuables out in the open.
Police are also investigating the theft of four chainsaws from a commercial truck on North Street reported at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3. The chainsaws that were taken have a collective value of $1,600.
Police locate man suspected in Stoughton hit and run
Canton police assisted Stoughton police in the apprehension of a motorist suspected of crashing his rental truck into a utility pole in Stoughton Center and then fleeing the scene. Stoughton police issued a bulletin describing the truck and Canton officers spotted the vehicle on Route 138 near Industrial Drive around 10 a.m. on Friday, July 6. Stoughton police charged the suspect, identified as Nicholas Silvia, 25, of Taunton, with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation.
Berkowitz to continue ‘Chillin with the Chief’ program
As he has done in recent summers, Police Chief Ken Berkowitz plans to continue his “Chillin with the Chief” initiative — a series of informal ice cream socials held in neighborhoods throughout the town. The program has been well received in recent years and gives the chief and his officers the opportunity to meet and connect with residents of all ages. Upcoming visits are scheduled at the Arboretum and Windsor Woods apartment complexes. Future visits will be announced on the CPD website and the CPD Twitter page.
