Fundraiser planned to benefit Detective Ruane
By Mike BergerA fundraiser to benefit Canton Police Detective Johnny Ruane has been set for Saturday, September 22, from 7-11 p.m. at Brookmeadow Country Club, 100 Everendon Road in Canton. Ruane, a 25-year member of the CPD, has been diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumor. He has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Police Department as he undergoes treatment in hopes of becoming cancer free.
According to fundraiser organizers Eric Wade (CPD) and Laura Donahue, “Johnny is the first one to help people in need and we are hoping everyone will do the same for him. Please stop by, have a bite to eat, listen to great music, and make a donation to support a great guy.”
The event will include a dinner buffet, music, cash bar and raffles, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Ruane family. Sponsors are Brookmeadow Country Club, Canton Medical Aesthetics, M. McHugo Tree Service, and Podgurski Corporation.
Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com. Those who are unable to attend but still wish to make a donation can do so via the Venmo app (John-Ruane-Fundraiser) or by mailing a check to Eric Wade, 1492 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
Donations for the raffle or silent auction are also welcome. For “in-kind” donation of services (i.e. hair cuts, dry cleaning, yard work, tutoring, etc.), please design a certificate with your logo and specific information detailing the service, value, and a name/number/email for the winner to contact. You can scan the certificate and email it to Helena Rafferty at hrafferty@town.canton.ma.us or drop off/mail to Helena Rafferty, 1492 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
