Supt. reports increase in kindergarten enrollments
By Mike BergerThe Luce Elementary School will be adding another section of kindergarten this fall due to increases in enrollments since the end of the last school year.
School Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller provided an update on the enrollment figures at last Tuesday’s School Committee meeting. According to the superintendent, total kindergarten enrollment has risen from 224 students in June to 233 students as of August 14, including 88 students at the JFK, 69 at the Hansen, and 76 at the Luce. Fischer-Mueller anticipates class sizes ranging from 22 at the JFK to 17 at the Hansen.
District wide, overall student enrollment has fallen by three students since the end of the 2017-18 school year — from 3,228 to 3,225. However, the heaviest number of new registrants is traditionally seen in mid to late August.
