Friends of the Blue Hills to hold annual celebration

By

The Friends of the Blue Hills will host their annual celebration on Thursday, October 4, from 7-9 p.m. at the Canton Town Club, 300 Bailey Street. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and the presentation of the organization’s 2018 Community Partners Awards.

Jeremy Comeau

Among this year’s honorees is Jeremy Comeau, former chairman of the Canton Planning Board. A Canton native and longtime environmental advocate, Comeau will be recognized for his efforts to protect and preserve the Blue Hills Reservation.

The keynote speaker at the annual celebration will be Ellen Berkland, staff archaeologist at the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. In a talk entitled “First People, First Stewards,” Berkland will explore the rich history of the Native Americans who were the first residents of the Blue Hills.

There will also be a special raffle as part of the festivities with the winner receiving a dinner for him/her and five guests at the top of the Blue Hills Observatory, catered by Siros and Port 305 in Marina Bay. Raffle tickets are $15 each or three for $35 and can be purchased at friendsofthebluehills.org/raffle2018.
