By Canton CitizenJames M. Maguire, 42, of Dedham, formerly of Canton, passed away at his home on October 3.
Born and raised in Canton, Jimmy played Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. He graduated from Canton High School in 1994 where he was class president and played center on the varsity football team. Jimmy was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
A retired firefighter with the Canton Fire Department, Jimmy loved his job and had a passion for helping others. During his time with the Fire Department, he established and ran an annual volleyball tournament to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and loved to play Santa Claus for the children at Christmas. He was a parishioner at St. Mary’s of the Assumption in Dedham and a member of the American Legion in Canton.
Beloved son of Thomas and Mary Maguire of Canton. Brother of Thomas Maguire and his wife, Michele, of North Falmouth, Janet Maguire of Ithaca, NY, and Robert Maguire and his wife, Kristen, of Avon. Cherished nephew of Della O’Donnell and her husband, Pete, of Easton, William Johnson of Hopedale, Marie Johnson of Milford, Michael Johnson of Brockton, Richard Johnson of CA, Marjorie Moss and her husband, Robert, of North Reading, and Laurence “Dusty” Maguire and his wife, Christine, of Dorchester. Loving nephew and Godson of the late Ann Burke and her husband, William, of Canton, the late Margaret Moriconi and her husband, Rino, and the late Jane and Joseph Wrenn. Proud uncle of Kathryn, Nathan, Jason, and Maeve. Former husband of Suzanne Passias of FL. Jimmy is also survived by many cousins, friends, and colleagues with the Canton Fire Department.
A funeral mass was held Wednesday in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Private burial at Bourne National Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
