Volleyball stays red hot with three more wins
By Jay TurnerThe Canton High volleyball team turned in another productive week on the court, improving to 9-1 overall while running their current winning streak to seven in a row.
The lady Bulldogs, currently in first place in the Davenport Division, notched shutout victories over both North Attleboro and Taunton and then closed out the week with a hard-fought, four-set win over third-place Milford (25-15, 18-25, 25-23, 25-16).
In the Milford match, Erin Devine led the way with 12 kills and six blocks while Taylor Harris collected nine kills, two blocks and 12 digs. Nicole Brown also continues to impress and had another strong performance against the Hawks, racking up 22 assists to go along with five kills, three aces and 11 digs. Emily Morrison and Megan McDonough aided the defense with 19 combined digs while McDonough added five aces.
In Monday’s home win over NA, the entire team contributed as the Bulldogs rolled to a 25-11, 25-22, 25-14 victory. Brown was outstanding as she collected 16 assists, 10 digs, one ace and one kill. Taylor Harris and Erin Devine each had eight kills and two blocks, and McDonough anchored the defense with 12 digs.
At Taunton on Wednesday, Canton scored another convincing win in straight sets behind strong performances from Harris (11 kills, 2 aces, 12 digs), Brown (14 assists, 11 digs, 5 kills), Devine (6 kills, 3 blocks), and McDonough (20 digs).
This week, the lady Bulldogs were due to host Oliver Ames and then travel to Foxboro, with a big road match looming next Monday against second-place Stoughton. The Black Knights entered the week just one match in back of Canton at 9-2, but the Bulldogs lead the season series after defeating Stoughton 3-0 at home back on September 17.
