Piazza, Ramon E.
By Canton CitizenRamon E. (Ray) Piazza passed away on October 22, 2018. He would have turned 92 in 18 days.
He was born in Clifton, NJ, to Anthony and Mary (Lombardo) Piazza, grew up in Roslindale, and graduated from Charlestown High School.
Ray married Maria (Nardone) in 1948 and moved to Canton in 1954 where they raised their 13 children. Maria passed away in 2004.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Military Police in the Philippines. He founded Suburban Electric Contracting Inc. in 1958 and later Suburban Insulation Inc. Ray previously sat on the advisory board of the Paul Revere Chapter of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) and on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Electrical Contractors Association (MECA). He was a member of the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) and was one of the original members of the Sons of Italy’s Canton Chapter.
Ray was also very proud of his large vegetable garden and many friends in town would stop by to visit and never leave empty-handed. He was affectionately known as “Papa Ray” to his children’s best friends and many others who loved and respected him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lecy (Cunha); his and Maria’s 13 children: Lena Murphy and her husband, John; Marianne DeRoche; Guy and his partner, Nancy Potts; Theresa Russo; and Richard and his wife, Liza, all of Canton; Ramon F. of Brockton; William and his partner, Caren Polillio, of West Bridgewater; Deanna Belek, and Patrick, both of Stoughton; Christine Morgan and her husband, Douglas, of Rockland; Christopher and his wife, Deborah, of Sharon; Joanne Capece and her husband, William, of Mansfield; Jacqueline Gorman and her husband, William, of North Attleboro; and Andrey Cunha of Florida, Jennyfer Cunha of Spain, Jaider Cunha Jr. of Abington, and Izaiah Cunha of Brazil and by 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of Elaine Piazza of Attleboro and the late Ettore and Ronald Piazza.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. Funeral service at the Victory Assembly of God, 67 High Plain Street in Sharon, Friday at 11 a.m. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
