Time is now for a ‘Green New Deal’

I support Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s resolution to create a House Select Committee for a Green New Deal in Congress. United Nations climate scientists tell us we have just 12 years to move our country off fossil fuels to avoid catastrophic climate disaster.
A Green New Deal would create millions of green jobs, move our country off fossil fuels, and protect working people of all backgrounds. This country is capable of taking swift action that benefits the common good. Countries around the world like Costa Rica, Albania, Iceland, Sweden, and the U.K. are leading the way with renewable energy systems that are either currently producing 100 percent of their energy from clean, renewable sources, or are on their way to doing so in a few short years.
Let’s not let corporate oil, gas and coal interests and those who push the notion that climate change is not real hold us back. Our children’s and grandchildren’s lives are at stake.
