Mite A’s win 2018 Turkey Goblet Tournament
By GuestThe Canton Youth Hockey Mite A team played in the prestigious Turkey Goblet Tournament held at the Foxboro Ice Center over Thanksgiving weekend. The Bulldogs came out flying on Friday against the South Shore Knights. Sam “The Red Rifle” Archibald, “Saving Private” Ryan Cullen, and Cam “Neely” Lyons led the attack in the game. Tadhg “The Quiet Man” Howard and Riley “The Gentleman” Durant were key to the victory against the Junior Friars and Medfield to round out the 3-0 record on Friday.
Saturday was a tough day for the home team as they lost twice to top-seeded Hingham. Connor “The Crease” Sullivan earned his nickname on Saturday as he was cleaning up rebounds all day long and putting them in the net. However, the Bulldogs finished 4-2 in round play, guaranteeing a spot in the semifinals on Sunday.
Entering the semifinal as the No. 2 seed, the Bulldogs went on to beat Medfield and earn a trip to the championship game behind the sniping of Kellen “Youngblood” Porter and the grittiness of Ethan “Red Slush” Davis. No. 1 Hingham beat the Friars to earn a spot in the championship game as well.
Before the championship game, Coach Davis channeled his inner Herb Brooks and told the boys that “Hingham may beat us most days, but today is our day.” The Bulldogs got out to an early lead and never looked back, winning the game 10-4. Mason “The X-Man” Pasquantonio was a beast on the blue line, blocking five shots. “Nifty” Nolan Gillis and “Cool Hand” Luke Chin led the attack in the finals. Goalie Chase “Not in My House” Thomas unofficially had 76 saves in the game, a tournament record. Coach Porter said to the team after the game, “You beat a very strong and well-coached Hingham team today. You should all be very proud.”
