Dave Bohane to lead CHS softball program
By Canton CitizenThe Canton High School Athletics Department recently announced the hiring of Dave Bohane as head coach of the CHS varsity softball team.
Bohane takes over from Jen Robillard, who resigned to pursue other softball opportunities. Robillard coached the team for the past two seasons and guided last year’s squad to a seven-win improvement and an MIAA tournament appearance.
A fixture in the Canton Public Schools since the early 1990s, Bohane taught physical education at the Hansen School before moving to the wellness department at CHS. After serving as head CHS football coach for a stint in the 1990s, Bohane returned to the sidelines in 2011 and has overseen a major resurgence in the program, most recently guiding the Bulldogs to the Division 4 south finals and their first league title since 1990. He also has experience with the CHS softball program, having served as an assistant coach under Robillard in 2017.
CHS Athletic Director Danny Erickson said Bohane has extensive experience in working with young softball players and has become a “true student of the game” over the past several years. “David is a true program leader,” Erickson said. “He is just what our softball team is in need of at this point. He will bring a high-intensity, high-energy, winning attitude to the program right away.”
“I am excited and ready to get started. This program can take off,” said Bohane. “I teach great student-athletes in my wellness classes every day and many are involved in the softball program. It is really a privilege to be named their coach. I look forward to building a championship-caliber program.”
