Kral, Ferdinand L.
By Canton CitizenFerdinand (Fred) L. Kral, Jr., 77, of Wellfleet, formerly of Canton, passed away March 11 in a tragic fire beside his wife of 53 years, Cathleen M. (Cronin).
Born in Boston, he was raised in Mattapan and graduated from Cathedral High School. He met Cathleen, the love of his life, in eighth grade and they were inseparable ever since. He went on to earn his BA from Northeastern and his MA in education from Leslie University.
He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and in his early professional years he worked in the Accounting Department at the Boston Globe. He later moved to Europe with his wife and three kids to teach in the American International School in Barcelona for three years. After that he and Cathleen helped to open the American International School in Nice, France.
When he returned home, he went on to work for the Canton Public Schools where he taught business law and typing at Canton High School and later served as the assistant principal at the Galvin Middle School in Canton before retiring. He was the head of the Safe Schools Committee in Canton and a member of the MTA (Mass. Teachers Association).
Ferdinand and Cathleen lived in Canton for many years before building their retirement “dream” home in Wellfleet. Fred was the ultimate handyman; plumbing, electrical, painting, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He always had a project he was working on and took pride in his tool collection. He was an avid golfer, loved to travel and meet new people. He loved entertaining with his wife Cathleen and was always sharing new recipes he tried. He was a fan of the Bruins, the Patriots, and loved fishing and boating. Like his father, he also enjoyed making movies and capturing the special moments in his family and friends’ lives.
Beloved husband of the late Cathleen M. (Cronin). Father of Ferdinand (Nando) L. Kral, III and his wife, Patricia, of Whitman, Joseph (Jody) Kral of Wellfleet, and Cassandra Kral-Dillon and her husband, Stephen, of Canton. Grandfather of Cameron and Erin Kral of Whitman. Brother of Rita Mulcahey and her husband, Donald, of Plymouth.
