The operators of the new restaurant at the Paul Revere Heritage Site are hoping for an opening date sometime in the late summer or Labor Day with renovations now underway on the first floor of the historic rolling mill building.

Victor Del Vecchio, chairman of the Paul Revere Heritage Commission, told selectmen Tuesday night that commission members were very impressed with the restaurant plans and are working with the operator to iron out a few remaining issues, including flooring, lighting, and venting of the hearth.

Daniel Myers of Northern Spy LLC, who also owns Loyal Nine in Cambridge, brought detailed architectural plans and drawings to the meeting as he outlined plans for a historic-themed restaurant in the 19th century Revere copper rolling mill. Loyal Nine is known for its Colonial era-inspired dishes and maintains direct relationships with area farmers and artisans.

Myers said the Canton restaurant will focus on “classic New England food.”

The restaurant will span 4,300 square feet with 130 permanent seats and a 36-seat bar on the main floor. There are also tentative plans for an 18-seat function area and storage space on the second floor of the mill, which the restaurant will be sharing with the town. The inside of the restaurant will feature an open concept with views to the kitchen along with various artifacts and photographs related to the history of the mill. There will also be an outdoor eating area adjacent to the mill building.

An advertisement for the position will soon be posted in many municipal publications and Aspinwall expects applications will be forwarded in April. Initial interviews will begin in May or June with the goal of finalizing an appointment by December so that the new director can work alongside Murgia for the final month.

* Aspinwall announced ratification of a new three-year contract with the Police Superior Officers Association. The contract is retroactive to July 1, 2018 and includes 2 percent raises in the first year and 3 percent raises for the final two years.
