A lifetime of memories at Canton’s town pool
By GuestDear Editor:
It often surprises me when I hear some Canton residents say that they have never been to the town pool on Bolivar Street.
When I was 5 years old my parents were looking to move out of South Boston. They looked in a few different communities and then looked at a townhouse in Canton. While looking at the property the realtor mentioned the town pool was across the street. Once he said that my mother said, “We’ll take it!”
For nearly 27 years I have lived across the street from the town pool and this week purchased my childhood home so I hope to be across the street from the town pool for many more years. As a child I spent most of my summer going to public swim. At age 8 I joined the swim team that I would be on for the next 10 years.
For my first job at age 14 I started working at the front desk at the pool collecting admission, and when I was old enough I became a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons every summer until graduating from college. Now my son has joined the swim team and enjoys the pool just as I did.
The relationships I have made from the town pool are countless. To me, “Home is where the pool is!”
I urge fellow citizens to please learn more about the current pool’s problems and why we need to rebuild.
