Discover new ways to give back at community volunteer fair
By Canton CitizenDo you want to learn about groups and clubs in your community? Are you looking for interesting volunteer work?
The Canton Public Library is proud to announce the fifth annual Canton Community Volunteer Fair. The fair will take place at the library on Wednesday, April 24, from 4-7 p.m. This fair gives local citizens the chance to learn about ways they can take an active role in improving their community. National Volunteer Week (April 7-13) is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.
The Canton Community Volunteer Fair is a wonderful opportunity for Canton-based nonprofit organizations, community groups, and town agencies to connect with potential volunteers and new members and to showcase their organizations.
“By sharing their gifts and talents, volunteers provide important services to Canton residents in need,” said Carolyn Elkort, outreach librarian at the Canton Public Library. “The positive difference that volunteers make goes well beyond the specific service they provide; helping others binds us together and enhances our very sense of community. Their example also can attract others to make a difference by finding their own volunteer opportunity.”
Representatives from local nonprofit organizations will be available to share their missions and available volunteer opportunities. Participating groups include Brookwood Community Farm, Literacy Volunteers of Stoughton, HESSCO Elder Services, Neponset River Watershed Association, Community Club of Canton, Norfolk County RSVP Volunteer Program, and many more.
This event is for adults and teens, and several participating organizations have volunteer opportunities open for both age groups. Volunteer work is always a plus for your resume or college application.
