Update: The final qualifiers for All-States are Maddie Rousseau and Junior Sainvil.

At least Maddie Rousseau and possibly Junior Sainvil, Jonathan Chery and Sarah Collins will be moving on to the MIAA All-State meet this weekend as a result of their performances at the Division 3 Eastern Mass. Track & Field Championships held last weekend at Merrimack College.

Rousseau placed third overall and broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a stellar time of 15.28 seconds. Sainvil finished fourth in the 100-meter sprint and fifth in the triple jump, and Chery and Collins each placed sixth in the 200m and 400 hurdles, respectively. By virtue of placing in the top six, all four are candidates to advance to the All-State competition, depending on the results at other divisional meets, according to head coach Anna Amico.

As a team at the Division 3 meet, the CHS boys finished 18th out of 35 schools while the girls finished 21st out of 33.

Other noteworthy finishes for the boys team included Thomas Pulcini, who placed 11th in the discus, Zach Goldstein, who took 16th in the 400m, and the 4×400 relay team of Michael Mazzola, James Vo, Justin Rose, and Deyontai Dennis, who finished 14th.

Dennis also competed in the 400 hurdles while Lucca Terenzio competed in the triple jump and 110 hurdles. Canton was also represented in the 4×100 relay and placed 16th behind Cam Sanchez, Chery, Goldstein and Sainvil.

On the girls’ side, Bronwyn Mahoney competed in two events, placing ninth in the shot put and 17th in the discus. Other top finishers included Rosana Cho in the 400 hurdles (9th), Leah Murphy in the triple jump (13th), and Rousseau in the long jump (14th).

Also competing for the lady Bulldogs were Chloe Pennacchio in the mile and Talya Mendez-DeGraw in the 200m.

The girls team also sent two relay squads: a 4×800 team that placed eighth overall behind Pennacchio, Lauren Sullivan, Hoban and Collins and a 4×100 team that took 18th behind an all-underclassmen lineup including freshmen Kiley Hannon and Mendez-DeGraw along with Cho, a junior, and Rousseau, a sophomore.

One weekend prior to the divisional meet, both CHS squads traveled to Franklin High to compete at the Hockomock League championships, and there were several notable individual performances.

For the girls team, Collins took home a league title in the 400 hurdles while Mahoney placed third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put and discus. Pennacchio finished fourth in the mile, and Rousseau placed fourth in the 100 hurdles and eighth in the long jump.

The boys also had an event winner with Pulcini placing first in the discus, while Sainvil finished second in the triple jump and fourth in the 100 meters. Chery added a sixth-place finish in the 200, and both he and Sainvil teamed with Sanchez and Goldstein to place fifth in the 4×100 relay.

Other top relays included the girls 4×800 team of Pennacchio, Sullivan, Hoban and Collins (4th place) and the boys 4×400 team of Vo, Rose, Dennis and Goldstein (7th place).
