A successful project by and for the community

By

Dear Editor:

Members of the Keep Canton Swimming Steering Committee would like to thank the residents of Canton for voting overwhelmingly in support of building a new aquatics complex at Bolivar Pool. We would also like to thank the following people, boards and committees for their contributions to the successful vote:

Liz Francis of the Parks & Recreation Department, John McCourt of the Recreation Commission, and Bob McCarthy of the Building Renovations Committee for spending countless hours working on a pool design that is best suited to Canton’s needs and for answering many questions related to the design and cost at numerous community meetings, and Jim Murgia for a financial analysis that was clear and compelling.

The Board of Selectmen, the Finance Committee, and the Conservation Commission for moving the approval process along in a timely and supportive manner, and the Community Preservation Committee for its support of CPA funds. In particular, we would like to thank Mark Porter for serving as a point person for the BOS on this project.

Participants at town meeting who remained until 11 p.m. to ensure support for this project.

The Canton Citizen and Canton Community Television for providing coverage of the many meetings and votes related to the project.

The Town Clerk’s office for running a smooth election the day after a long weekend and the Canton Town Club for the donation of signs for election day.

Dolphin alumni and neighbors who called and shared on social media, including all those who raised questions and concerns so that there was a full and fair opportunity to address them.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the grand opening in the summer of 2020!

Working together, we all made it happen.

Yours in gratitude,

Keep Canton Swimming Steering Committee
