Former Canton coach bound for field hockey HOF
By Canton CitizenThe Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to announce that Fior Griffin of Canton is among those who will be inducted into the 20th annual Hall of Fame class on Sunday, September 15, at the Aqua-Turf Club in Southington, CT.
Griffin, the former longtime head coach of the CHS field hockey team, will be inducted in the College Player Category. A 1999 graduate of Watertown High School (CT), she was a four-year varsity player there and received All-State 1st Team recognition in both her junior and senior years. During her four years at Northeastern University, she was a three-time All-Conference 1st Team selection, three-time America East All-Conference, 2002 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, three-time Northeast Region All-American, and received All-American recognition in 2002. She graduated in 2004 with a BA in business and went on to earn a master’s in accounting in 2005.
Giving back to the sport of field hockey, she became the head varsity coach at Canton High School and coached there for nine seasons, recording a record of 138-25-22. Her teams were six-time Hockomock League champions, three-time south sectional champions, and in 2007 were Eastern Massachusetts champions.
The September 15 induction event will begin at 3 p.m. with cocktails followed by dinner at 4 p.m. The cost is $60 per person and the reservation deadline is September 6. Dinner reservations can be made by contacting Nancy Grace at n1027grace@gmail.com.
