Man About Canton: Library Tech Gala

By

Did you know …

The Friends of the Canton Public Library will be holding a technology gala entitled “Come Play With Us” on Saturday, November 23, starting at 7 p.m. The gala will raise funds to support the programs in the library’s Maker Space and to replace lost or damaged components. The premise of the event is to get the community to understand what is in the Maker Space, what it does, and how it works. There will be ‘play spaces’ around the library that will exhibit various technology for the attendees to learn about, including 3D printers, a VCR to digital transfer program, machines that finely cut paper designs, robots, and kits for building your own computer (and maybe even a drone if the Friends can arrange it). The most important part of this fun evening, however, is raising the funds for the Maker Space. To that end, the Friends are seeking donations and sponsors for this event. The levels of sponsorship start at $25 and go up to $5,000, which will give you naming rights for the entire event. Individual and corporate sponsors are welcome. For a full list of sponsor options and to donate, go to the drop-down menu of the library’s homepage under “Get Involved” and choose “Technology Gala.”

All students in the Randolph school system will be served breakfast and lunch at no charge under the national program. The federal government reimburses the schools for the cost of the meals. According to the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, about 45 percent of Randolph’s 2,737 public school students are economically disadvantaged.

The 2020 federal census is underway, and the Census Bureau has begun address canvassing, which will last until mid-October. The purpose of the canvassing is to verify the addresses of residences.
