CHS Making Strides
By GuestOn Sunday morning, September 29, 200 high school students gathered in front of Canton High in a sea of pink awaiting buses that would soon bring them into Boston.
For the 17th year, teams and clubs from CHS, including girls soccer, field hockey, volleyball, cheerleading, drama club, robotics club and girls and boys cross country, have participated in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Every year, CHS teacher Ed Amico leads students in fundraising, supporting, and then walking six miles with the goal of finding a cure for breast cancer. This year, students fundraised over $14,000, bringing the school’s total to over $120,000.
It is truly incredible to see high school students come together for an amazing cause that affects women every day. Whether a student has been directly or indirectly affected by breast cancer, it is clear through all the pink t-shirts, headbands, and ribbons that the community feels so passionate about the cause. Students walk for the women who have been affected, who are now fighting, and in honor of the strong ones who aren’t present to walk anymore. It is so inspiring to see my peers help make such an impact on the efforts to finding a cure. Until that cure is found, Canton High School will continue to spread hope and awareness towards such a significant and valuable cause.
Donations to the CHS team are still being accepted through October 31 — visit makingstrides.acsevents.org, click “donate” and search for “Canton High School.” Thank you for your continued support.
