Local Community Theatre Happenings

What greater way to build our community than to give our children the chance to grow and explore their passion? It was this ideal that led Canton Community Theatre (CCT) to bring an all-children’s production back to its stage.

Performed this past October, The Enchanted Bookshop by Todd Wallinger captured the spirit of our town. With an almost completely sold-out run, children from local elementary and middle schools dazzled audiences with their poise, creativity, hard work, and talent. Many used this opportunity to take the theatrical stage for the first time; others used it to achieve new heights in their theatrical careers; and all shared in the experience of creating connections with their fellow castmates. Directors Brian Vogel and Corey Shore were ecstatic to watch the cast  grow and look forward to continuing such children’s programming in the future. They hope that as their cast advances academically, so will they in their performing.

It is such growth within our community that allows Canton Community Theatre to continue filling its stage, which they will do again shortly with an adult holiday show. Taking a slightly different path from the Christmas carols of years past, they now turn to a more adventurous piece of theater.

Ken Ludwig’s The Game’s Afoot – Holmes for the Holidays is comedic, tragic, and the perfect murder mystery to lead you into your holiday season. A well-known theatre troupe, while on the verge of beginning a major tour, is suddenly impacted by the murder of one of its colleagues. Now everyone is eager to point fingers and discover the truth by any means necessary. No one can or should be trusted as Ludwig sets his audiences up to spin through the possibilities.

Be ready to expect the unexpected, as this dynamite cast will not disappoint. Starring Brian Vogel (William Gillette), George Hanscom (Felix Geisel), Alex Hagerty (Simon Bright), Aileen Lyons (Harriet Goring), Roxana Rubin (Martha Gillette), Melissa Greico-Waters (Madge Geisel), Jenn Tegnell (Aggie Wheeler), and Suzanne Melanson-Vogel (Daria Chase), this team is strong both on and off the stage. Brimming with powerful camaraderie,  they bring an excellent text to its highest potential effortlessly. With commotion, special effects and mystery in store, Director Renee Hanscom says that she cannot wait to blow audiences’ minds.
