Toomey, John E.
By Canton CitizenJohn E. Toomey, Jr., 89, a lifelong resident of Canton, passed away January 4.
Born in Norwood, he was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. He started his professional career with Ma Bell (American Telephone and Telegraph Corporation) in Dorchester where he worked for many years and retired from Verizon. John was an active parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton where he served as an usher for many years.
Beloved husband of Isabelle M. (Stevenson). Father of John E. Toomey III and his wife, Laurie, of Uxbridge and Michael C. Toomey and his wife, Sarah, of Toronto. Grandfather of Liam, Gillian, Ethan, Noah, Aedan and Cian. Brother of the late Claire Buckley and Margaret Hart. Also survived by his four-legged friend Samantha.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday (today) at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial VA National Cemetery in Bourne Thursday at 1:15 p.m. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
