By Canton CitizenTamisha Civil is running for state representative for the 6th Norfolk District, which covers the towns of Avon, Canton and Stoughton. Civil is a 39-year-old Stoughton homeowner, mother, and wife who works as an associate probation officer with the Massachusetts Probation Services. She is a graduate of Northeastern University with a master’s degree in criminal justice and leadership.
Civil was recently reappointed on January 1, 2020 as commissioner for the Eastern Regional Commission on the Status of Women. She’s a Girl Scout troop leader in Stoughton, a member of the Parent Council Committee at Joseph R. Dawe, Jr. Elementary School in Stoughton, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
For the past two years she has been hosting “Voice of Reason Boston,” a radio broadcast that focuses on socioeconomic issues that are impacting people in the community. The broadcast provides a platform for community leaders and organizations in the greater Boston area to spread awareness and advocate for resources.
Civil is running for state representative for the 6th Norfolk District because she wants to work for the community and advocate for policies that will impact all citizens in the district, addressing issues such as climate change, health care, transportation and education.
As a Democrat, she will fight for high-quality early education and ensure that care is available to all working families. She believes it is important to support legislation for universal pre-kindergarten for all children in your municipality. Regarding health care, Civil will support creating a single-payer health insurance system in Massachusetts that promotes access and low care cost. To combat climate change, she will be supporting energy efficiency and clean energy development, keeping more energy dollars local and helping communities shift to a greener economy that has low carbon emission and is sustainable. Transportation has been among the biggest issues in the district, and Civil pledges to invest in public transportation, vote against fare increases, and fix roads or open streets that make it usable for major traffic.
Tamisha Civil believes her drive and passion for others makes her an ideal candidate to represent the 6th Norfolk District.
