CHS volleyball star Taylor Harris commits to Springfield
By Canton CitizenOn Thursday, February 27, CHS senior Taylor Harris celebrated her decision to play college volleyball at a signing ceremony attended by family members, coaches, school administrators and friends.
Harris, the youngest of four siblings in a family of talented athletes, is headed to Springfield College in the fall to play for coach Moira Long. The Pride are coming off a 16-12 campaign and have made seven trips to the NCAA tournament in Long’s nine seasons as coach.
A four-year member of the CHS volleyball program, Harris grew by leaps and bounds as a player during the course of her high school career, transforming into an all-star and ultimately a legend as she led the Bulldogs to their first ever Massachusetts state championship in 2019.
An unstoppable force at outside hitter, Harris led the entire state in kills as a senior with 434 while earning a slew of top accolades, including Hockomock League Most Valuable Player and Boston Globe Player of the Year.
More than just an individual talent, Harris was also widely regarded as an outstanding teammate and captain. “She genuinely delighted in the success of her teammates and did whatever was needed to secure the win,” remarked head coach Pat Cawley. “Taylor appreciated the difficulty of each player’s job and knew success was a team effort. She is one of the most humble players to ever take the court. She has what it takes to be successful at the next level. We wish her luck and will miss her tremendously!”
In a statement welcoming Harris to the Springfield women’s volleyball program, Coach Long lauded Harris’ “work ethic, confidence in herself, her teammates, desire to win and compete” — all attributes that she said were apparent from the moment she first saw her play. “Taylor is going to make an immediate impact on Springfield College both on and off the court,” added Long. “We are thrilled to have her join us.”
