Bank of Canton donates $2,000 to Canton Food Pantry

Bank of Canton recently donated $2,000 and several hundred bags to the Canton Food Pantry in response to the community’s growing need for food and basic necessities brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. The bank donated another $4,000 and bags to food pantries in Randolph and Quincy as well.
“We’ve greatly appreciated Bank of Canton’s contributions over the years, and we are very grateful today for its most recent check and supply of bags,” said Canton Food Pantry director Mary Buckley. “The layoffs, furloughs and school closures are taking a toll on local families. I think some are realizing that this could go on for a very long time, and will need assistance.”
The Canton Food Pantry is currently providing registered clients with prepackaged essential items using curbside check-in and pick-up during scheduled hours. “We have a wonderful group of volunteers,” said Buckley. “Stacey Bucci organized the new delivery system and coordinates the activities of the other volunteers. We’re making the most of the resources we have.”
The food pantry is still accepting donations of non-perishable items between 9 and 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They are taking extra precautions in accordance with the Board of Health’s guidelines, setting all donations aside for six days before handling them. Items can also be dropped off at Pratt Realtors. Toilet paper, soap, toothpaste and deodorant are among the most needed items.
“We’re always thankful for monetary donations that allow us to buy items from the Greater Boston Food Bank,” Buckley added. “With fewer donation drop-off locations open to the public right now, and fewer people going out, we’re counting on donations through the town of Canton’s website to help keep us going.”

The Canton Food Pantry is located at 960R Washington Street (in the back of the Marilyn G. Rodman Educational and Administrative Center). It is operated entirely by volunteers who wish to help their fellow townspeople.
