Town meeting info session was poorly executed

By

Dear Editor:

I disagree with the Citizen’s characterization of the town meeting virtual information session held on June 15. It was not a two-and-a-half-hour question and answer session. It was two hours and 20 minutes of one-way dialogue and, generously, 10 minutes of clumsy effort to address submitted written questions.

Residents were not allowed to speak, which made follow-up impossible. Nor was there a way to ask presenters to clarify something as they were presenting it.

Granted, this is new terrain, but if the information session is for the residents’ benefit, someone should have realized that preventing two-way communication in exchange for expediency would result in poor execution.

Also, it would have been nice to know how many other residents attended the session. Someone said there were 40 at the outset, which means the majority of participants may have been town officials. That’s on the residents, of course, but perhaps officials can figure out how to make events like this and town meeting more appealing.

Thank you,

Glenn Shane
