News Notes: Police Dept. mourns loss of K-9 Bosco
By Mike BergerThe Canton Police Department announced the passing of retired K-9 Bosco on July 16. Bosco, a SWAT, apprehension and firearms dog, kept Canton and surrounding communities safe for 12 years under the care and direction of Officer Scott Brown and his family. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said Bosco was a beloved member of the CPD and was instrumental in the arrests of countless suspects and the recovery of numerous firearms used in the commission of crimes.
CFD responds to multi-car highway crash
On Wednesday, July 15, at 5 p.m., Canton firefighters and an ambulance responded to a four-car motor vehicle accident on I-93 northbound. Crews arrived to find State Police on scene with the wreckage. Firefighters from Randolph and Milton also responded to the scene. A Canton ambulance transported one patient to Good Samaritan Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Engine 4 remained on the highway for 45 minutes until the road was cleared of debris and vehicles. For the past week, the CFD responded to a total of 70 requests for service, none of which were opioid-related.
Police to summon 2 on drug charges
A Brockton and Taunton man are both facing drug possession charges after police were called to their vehicle for a well-being check on Saturday, July 18, at the intersection of Neponset Street and Cape Cod Lane. Following an investigation, one suspect, John J. Miller, 38, of Brockton, was placed under protective custody and will be summoned to court to face a charge of possession of a Class A drug (methamphetamine). Kenneth Stone, 49, of Taunton, will also be summoned to court to face charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and possession of a Class A substance.
