Dear Canton Citizen Readers:

As an independent community newspaper with a mostly ‘open door’ policy on letters and opinion pieces, the Citizen is proud to provide a platform for residents to express themselves and their views, regardless of political affiliation or partisan leanings. However, please remember that all views are solely those of the individual letter writer or columnist and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Citizen staff. Further, we reject accusations of political bias, while taking comfort in the fact that a publication cannot simultaneously be both “too liberal” and “too conservative,” as some on both the left and the right have recently suggested. Finally, we urge those who may disagree with an opinion to keep reading, and if you feel so compelled, to join in the free exchange of ideas and consider contributing a letter of your own. We are happy to offer the Canton community this weekly platform, and we thank you, particularly in this politically charged atmosphere, for your thoughtful feedback and ongoing support.
