News Notes: Weekly COVID-19 Report and more
By Mike BergerAs of Tuesday, August 18, the town of Canton had reported a cumulative total of 380 COVID-19 cases (326 confirmed and 54 probable), an increase of 11 in the past seven days. Fire Chief and Emergency Services Director Charles Doody said the actual number of cases is likely considerably higher when factoring in unknown and undiagnosed cases in the community. He urged residents to continue to practice social distancing, wear a face covering in public places where social distancing is not possible, wash their hands, adhere to the governor’s Safer at Home Advisory, and avoid large gatherings.
Doody also reported that the town has seen a recent trend in which multiple family members in a single household are diagnosed with COVID-19, which suggests, he said, that proper isolation protocols may not be in place. He said it may be because it is physically impossible due to the layout of the house or family situation, but it also may be due to a lack of information about how to stay well in a home where a family member is ill. To solve the latter issue, Doody referred residents to the DPH document titled “Information and Guidance for Persons in Quarantine due to COVID-19.” The document is available at mass.gov and has been posted on the Citizen website at www.thecantoncitizen.com.
Randolph-Washington St. light due any day
DPW Superintendent Mike Trotta said the overdue light stanchion and parts for the new traffic light at the intersection of Randolph and Washington streets are due any day from Wisconsin. Once delivered, it will take seven days for a full installation and for the light to be operational. The rest of the intersection redesign has been completed.
Hazardous Waste Day set for Aug. 22
