Canton 18U softball enjoys memorable summer season
By Canton CitizenThe Canton 18U girls fast pitch softball team recently wrapped up a fantastic summer season, advancing all the way to the finals in the South Shore Summer Softball League.
The Canton girls, coached by Ken Gordon, Justin Santos and Ed Chin, finished the regular season tied for the best overall record at 8-2. The team ultimately settled for third place as a result of the head-to-head tie-breaker, losing to both Quincy and Milton 6-5 in the regular season.
The pitching was a strength this season. The staff made up of Ally Foulsham, Gillian Gordon, and Sophia Santos gave up a total of 44 runs over 10 games to lead the SSSL in runs allowed.
Canton also led the league in total runs scored with 134. They were led by shortstop Gabby Reinbold, catcher Ellie Bohane, first baseman Jordana Hersch, Emily Ciampa and Kylie Martone, who split time at second base and right field, third baseman Abby Nee, left fielder Olivia Mackwell, and center fielder Abby Chin CF.
In the playoffs, Canton beat Milton 10-9 in a thriller, but lost to a tough Quincy team in the finals 18-9 to capture second place. Canton will return all of its current players for next season.
