The undefeated Canton High golf team continues to draw on its impressive team depth, improving to 8-0 recently with back-to-back wins over North Attleboro.

Playing in another home-and-home series last week, the Bulldogs took the first match 146-159 at Blue Hills Country Club and followed it up a day later with a 147-156 victory at Heather Hill Country Club.

In last Tuesday’s home win, junior Will Gefteas shot a match-low 35 as he continued his run of strong performances. Gefteas was followed by seniors Thomas Singleton and Owen Donovan, and junior Andrew Middleton, who had identical scores of 37.

Also stepping up was junior Ryan Doucette, who shot a 39 in his first match. “Ryan has been playing really well at practice and it was great to see him perform well in a match,” noted head coach Mike Barucci.

In the away match on Wednesday, Conor Hunter was the low scorer with a 35, followed by Gefteas and Donovan with a 37 and Aiden French with a 38. “Conor has been working extremely hard at practice and it is really paying off for him now,” Barucci said. “He had a great week, ending with a match medalist round on the road. Aiden French also had a great round, which included a birdie on the last hole.”

Barucci also had strong praise for Gefteas, who he said has had an “incredible season” and is currently tied for second in the Hockomock League with a 37.25 average. Gefteas is one of six CHS golfers with an average under 40, along with Donovan (37.5), Mike Leonetti (37.71), Hunter (39.13), Middleton (39.14) and Singleton (39.25).

In other news, the Hockomock League announced that it would hold its golf championship on Monday, November 2, at Franklin Country Club. The match will begin with a modified shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The top three golfers from each Hockomock team will participate, and individual and team champions will be recognized.
