James F. Houghton (affectionately known as Hun, Dad, Papa, Buddy, Jimmy, and Red), of Canton, died peacefully, but unexpectedly February 1, 2021, at the age of 91.

The beloved husband of the late Agnes M. Houghton. He was born on January 7, 1930 to James Andrew and Mary (Biesty) Houghton on Neponset Avenue in Dorchester. Devoted father of Jeanine Sullivan and her husband, Kevin, Kara Houghton, Paula Houghton and Bill Laubenstein, Lisa Aptowitz and her husband, Jess, and James Houghton and his wife, Amy. Proud Papa to his grandchildren James, Patrick, Laura, Mark, Olivia, and the late Declan. He is survived by his sister Helen and her husband, Bill Walsh. Also survived by a nephew and several nieces. He was predeceased by his sisters Mary Louise Houghton, Julia (Ann) and his brother-in-law John Dempsey, and sister-in-law Mary T. Norton.

A humble, hard-working, competitive soul who was loved by all. We will see you again when the stars fall from the sky.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Friday from 4-8 p.m. Due to the current COVID-19 guidelines, only 10 guests will be permitted within the funeral home at a time, masks are required, and guests should bring their own pens to sign the register book. Funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery. Veteran Korean Conflict.
