Canton schools release new COVID-19 dashboard
By Mike BergerA new reporting tool tracking the number of COVID-19 cases in the Canton school system is now available on the district website.
Developed by Canton High School Assistant Principal Josh Fogel, the CPS COVID-19 Dashboard provides a snapshot of confirmed positive COVID cases and quarantine data within a specified date range while also reporting the cumulative number of positive cases since September 1, 2020.
In addition to providing district totals, the dashboard also includes a breakdown of positive cases by school building during the most recent date range, as well as a breakdown of new reported positive cases and newly started quarantine periods for both students and staff during each date within the specified range.
Initially released last Wednesday, January 27, the dashboard was updated on Sunday, January 31, and showed a substantial drop in positive cases and quarantine numbers among students and staff during the last week of January.
As of 5 p.m. on Sunday, there were seven total positive COVID cases across the Canton school district (six students and one staff member) and 39 people in quarantine (32 students and seven staff members). The cumulative number of reported positives since September 1 stood at 155.
Among the seven positive cases during the most recent date range (January 28-30), three were reported at CHS and two were at the Kennedy School with one each at the Rodman and Luce Schools. Zero positive cases were reported at the Hansen School and Galvin Middle School.
All seven of the new cases were reported on January 28 with no new cases reported on January 29 or 30. Additionally, 32 students and five staff started quarantining on January 28, and two staff members started quarantining on January 29. No students or staff started quarantining on January 30.
During the inaugural reporting period of January 24-27, 13 positive COVID cases were reported among students and staff was 13 and 83 were reported to be in quarantine. Among the positive cases, six were reported at CHS with two each at Luce, JFK and GMS and one at the Hansen School.
The dashboard will be updated twice weekly with the Wednesday report capturing data from Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the Sunday report containing data from Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The COVID-19 Dashboard will be accessible at all times via a link on the district website at cantonma.org.
