By Canton CitizenGrace A. Blanchard departed this life at her home in Canton on March 25, 2021, after amazingly overcoming various illnesses. She lost her final battle to congestive heart failure due to complications from childhood rheumatic fever.
Grace was born on July 26, 1933, in Boston to the late Richard and Angelina Tyner. She married Caryl J. Blanchard on August 10, 1952, who predeceased her after 55 years of marriage. Loving mother of Dr. Carol Blanchard and her husband, Dr. William Sylvia, Jr., of Dracut; Joyce Blanchard Campbell and her husband, Peter Campbell, of Mount Pleasant, SC; Carl Blanchard and his wife, Jennifer Blanchard, of Basking Ridge, NJ; and Sharon Blanchard and her husband, Robert Otto, Jr., of Brockton. Proud grandmother of seven grandchildren: Courtney Campbell, currently of NY; James and Christine Campbell, currently of SC; and Caroline, Thomas, Benjamin, and Allison Blanchard, all currently of NJ.
Grace had an amazing joy for life and a passion for gathering with friends and family. She enjoyed playing bridge, cribbage, mahjong and golf with friends and word games, crossword puzzles, sudoku, and jigsaw puzzles with family. Grace was also an avid gardener. She grew and shared her summer vegetables with all. She was famous among friends and family for the huge red tomatoes from her garden, which were delicious in a sandwich or in a big pot of sauce that she simmered for hours. A talented beader, Grace made many beautiful pieces of jewelry for her loved ones to enjoy.
As a strong, intelligent woman of 87, Grace amazed her proud family with her capability for independent living. She will always be remembered as ‘Amazing Grace!’
A memorial service (date forthcoming) will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. She will be interred with her late husband, Caryl J. Blanchard.
