News Notes: EMS responds to 3 overdose incidents

Leo Reardon, the Canton Fire Department’s interim EMS coordinator, reported two opioid rescue incidents in Canton as well as one assistance call in Randolph during the month of April.

On April 11, EMS treated a 35-year-old male patient who overdosed on Sassamon Street near the fire station. Reardon said the patient was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. After aggressive advanced life support measures by the crew and doses of Narcan, he was successfully revived and transported to the hospital.

On April 14, EMS crews responded to a 37-year-old male patient who was found by bystanders in a gas station parking lot on Washington Street near the Blue Hills. The EMS team determined the man was in respiratory arrest and the bystanders were guided by dispatchers in the performance of CPR prior to the arrival of emergency responders. Canton Police and Fire personnel administered nasal Narcan to the patient, who was successfully resuscitated and then transported to the hospital.

One week later, a Canton EMS crew responded to an opioid overdose call in Randolph and successfully resuscitated a 59-year-old male patient with similar interventions and transported him to an area hospital.

Firefighters-EMTs treat motorcycle accident victim

On Monday, April 26, at approximately 2 p.m., Canton firefighters and paramedics responded to a motorcycle crash on I-93 north at the on-ramp to Route 24 south. Upon arrival they found State Police with a single crash victim on the roadway. The patient suffered multiple serious injuries and had to be med-flighted to Boston Medical Center. Randolph Fire also assisted with the treatment of the patient.

Mobile Vaccination Team visiting residents today

Canton Fire Chief Charles Doody reported that the Fire Department’s Mobile Vaccination Team, in partnership with the Board of Health, will be visiting approximately a dozen homes on Thursday to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to homebound residents. The residents will be receiving the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which was recently approved for use by the CDC and FDA following a temporary pause …
