More than half of all Canton residents fully vaccinated

As the percentage of fully vaccinated residents approaches the 50 percent mark statewide, the town of Canton has managed to officially cross that milestone, according to the latest statistics put out by the Department of Public Health (DPH).
As of May 20, 52.6 percent of the Canton population — 12,180 individuals — had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while two-thirds of residents (15,451) had received at least one dose. The total population of Canton, according to the DPH report, is 23,173.
Broken down by age group, the most widely vaccinated cohort in Canton as of May 20 were those aged 65-74, with 86 percent fully vaccinated and a whopping 95 percent having received at least one dose. Among Canton residents aged 75 and older, 83 percent have been fully vaccinated and 93 percent have received at least one dose.
Data for the younger age groups in Canton are as follows: 50-64 years (70 percent fully vaccinated/84 percent at least one dose); 30-49 years (57 percent/77 percent); 20-29 years (47 percent/66 percent); and 16-19 years (40 percent/71 percent).
Additionally, 173 Canton youth aged 12-15 (14 percent) received an initial dose of the vaccine in their first week of eligibility, according to the May 20 DPH report.
