The Canton Association of Business & Industry is pleased to introduce its Members Spotlight Series, a new occasional feature appearing in the Canton Citizen.

Moving has been a major theme in Noreen Boyce’s life during the past 10 years. It began when her husband transferred to work at EMC, now Dell Technologies, in Framingham, and she left her home country of Ireland for a new life in the U.S. Arriving with her husband and two school-age children, with two more remaining back home to finish college, they settled in Newton. Their plan was to return to Ireland three years later, then that plan changed when they realized they had found a new home.

A desire to “do something completely different” prompted a different type of move for Boyce, and she began working in the real estate industry with Coldwell Banker as an agent in Newton. She has been with the company for nine years. Her latest career move with them happened in September 2020 when she landed the branch manager position at the Canton office. She now manages a team of 38 agents.

“I see it as similar to being a coach and teacher,” said Boyce, who is well trained for both roles, having been a high school French teacher in Ireland. Last year, she and her team faced a very tough market, and she designed and helped them with new strategies. Their success showed her how much she enjoys encouraging them to face any challenge confidently.

“It’s like a family, my own little village, supported by this big network,” she said.

How have today’s challenges shaped current buyers? Boyce finds that they are highly educated and do their research. “They know where they want to be,” she said. “They know how they are going to get to work. They still need an agent to help them negotiate the process, but they come with their wish list in hand.”

Canton has a great number of unique features that appeal to buyers, but its location is often at or near the top of the list. The town’s accessibility by car or train is attractive, and people find its proximity to the Cape and Rhode Island appealing.

Prior to taking on her current position, Boyce’s connections with Canton were through friends or driving to and from the Irish Cultural Centre for her son’s rugby games, and she has fallen in love with the town. She currently lives in Framingham, but says she’d consider Canton for her next house. “I think it would be a really nice place to come next as empty nesters,” she said. “I would like to be closer to the ocean, and there are so many people with some sort of connection to Ireland.”
