Volunteers needed to ‘Survey & Save the Forest’

By

Tim Reynolds of Boston and Lauren Tarvin of Canton practice taking photos for Survey and Save the Forest.

The Friends of the Blue Hills invites people of all ages to participate in Survey and Save the Forest, an initiative to survey the most destructive invasive plants at Ponkapoag Pond in an effort to better protect the forest health.

Participants will take photos of the most destructive invasive plants in designated areas along the trail. The photos that volunteers take, along with the location of the plants, will help in the development of a strategic management plan for the forest that will better protect endangered and other native species.

After an online or in-person training, participants can survey with others at an organized event or on their own.

An upcoming online training is scheduled for Wednesday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m. In-person trainings are scheduled for August 10 at 5 p.m. and August 21 at 9 a.m. To learn more and register for a training, visit FriendsoftheBlueHills.org/survey-ponky, or email info@FriendsoftheBlueHills.org.
