State Police probe shooting case

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a shooting incident that allegedly took place on the highway somewhere between Randolph and Canton on the evening of Friday, August 6.

CPD Lt. Patty Sherrill said Canton Police learned of the incident from Norwood Police, who encountered a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of Norwood Hospital, which remains closed due to a June 2020 flooding incident. Sherrill said the man told police that he was shot somewhere on the highway while changing a flat tire. He said he was a passenger in the vehicle and that the operator had driven to a gas station in Canton because they were unable to change the tire and the car couldn’t be driven.

Canton Police Officer Will Theodore recovered the car at the Blue Hill Express gas station as it was being loaded onto the back of a tow truck. Sherrill said State Police are handling the investigation as the incident occurred on the highway.

State Police investigating fatal crash in Canton

At approximately 12:58 a.m. on August 5, troopers assigned to State Police Barracks in Foxboro, Framingham and Milton responded to a report of a fatal crash on I-95 northbound near Neponset Street in Canton.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by a 21-year-old man from Dorchester, was traveling northbound in the left lane when, for undetermined reasons, the vehicle veered across the roadway and over the guardrail on the breakdown lane side.

One of the three passengers, a 21-year-old woman from Boston, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger, a 21-year-old man from Boston, were transported to Boston Medical Center with minor injuries. The third passenger, a 20-year-old man from Boston, was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center with minor injuries.

State Police said charges, if any, will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Canton Fire and EMS.
