John J. Connolly, 80, of Canton, died after a courageous battle with lung cancer on August 19, 2021.

Born in Cambridge and raised in the Kerry Corner neighborhood, John was a proud graduate of Rindge Tech. He grew up working at the famous Algonquin Club of Boston. A Canton resident for 47 years, he was a proud member of Wampatuck Country Club, former Canton youth sports coach/volunteer and a member of the town of Canton Emergency Response Team.

John enjoyed a 35-year career with Boston Edison that started as an elevator operator and after many years as an underground grade A splicer out of Mass Ave. he joined the management ranks with his final stop in labor relations. Upon retirement he enjoyed a consulting role with NStar.

John’s true passion was his family, especially his role as #papa of 14. The fall was spent enjoying football, soccer, gymnastics, and cheer. The winter months brought him to the cold rinks all over New England. During the spring he enjoyed roaming the baseball, softball, and lacrosse fields. He truly enjoyed watching his grandkids and their friends compete and have fun. Summertime was his time to relax with family and friends in Falmouth.

Beloved husband of 58 years of Barbara (Prendeville) Connolly, and son of the late Mary and Hugh Connolly, family from Kerry and Cork respectively. Devoted father of John J. Connolly Jr. (Sean) of Canton, Colleen Hutchinson and husband, John, of Canton, Craig Connolly and wife, Susan, of Foxboro, Scott Connolly and wife, Christine, of Canton, Denise Dearden and husband, Scott, of Stoughton, and much beloved Papa of Elizabeth Poulin and great-granddaughter Camryn; Christopher, Danny and Kellianne Connolly; Johnnie, Caitlin, and Carly Hutchinson; Brenna, Megan and Erin Connolly; and Jack, Sean, and Liam Connolly. Brother of Patricia MacNeil and husband, Doug, of Walpole, Fran Connolly and the late Joanne of Medford, the late Kay Stone and husband, Frank, of Yarmouth, and the late Kevin Connolly. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center. Arrangements by the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, www.roache-pushard.com.
