CHS hoops legend to play for D1 Clemson University
By Jay TurnerFormer Bulldog hoops standout and 2019 Massachusetts “Mr. Basketball” winner Devin Foster is now an official member of the Division 1 Clemson University Tigers after being added to the team’s roster earlier this week.
A 6’2” junior guard, Foster will make his college basketball debut in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) this season after serving as an undergraduate team manager for the Tigers in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He joins a team that is coming off a 16-8 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost in the first round to Rutgers.
A 2019 graduate of Canton High School, Foster is widely regarded as the greatest basketball player to ever put on a Bulldog uniform. Over a brilliant four-year career, he helped reshape the culture of Canton basketball, leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back Hockomock Davenport Division titles and shattering the program’s 20-year scoring record with 1,306 points. As a senior, Foster led the Hockomock League with 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, earning overall league MVP honors while being named state player of the year by the Mass. Basketball Coaches Association.
At the time, then CHS coach Ryan Gordy hailed Foster as the “best player who has played basketball at Canton High.”
“He is the ultimate teammate,” Gordy raved to the Boston Globe. “He’s extremely coachable, and his character is impeccable.”
Foster and his new Tigers teammates will kick off the 2021-22 season on Monday, November 1, at home against Georgia Southwestern State. Follow the action at clemsontigers.com/sports/mens-basketball.
