Chelmow, Laurence
By Canton CitizenLaurence Chelmow passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; his three children, David Chelmow, MD, and his wife, Fay, Ted Chelmow, PhD, and his wife, JingJing Xue, and Susan Chelmow Nourse, as well as his daughter-in-law Yuki Kawaguchi. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Ben and Jenny Chelmow, Maddie and Grace Nourse, Kaito Kawaguchi Chelmow and Kang Chelmow.
Larry graduated with a BA from Columbia College in 1960, a BS in engineering from Columbia University in 1961, during which time he was elected into Alpha Pi Mu National Industrial Engineering Honor Society, and an MS in engineering in 1966.
Larry was principal engineer for Polaroid Corporation for 29 years. In retirement, he channeled his love for horology into his clock repair and restoration business, As Time Goes By. He was past president of Chapter Eight New England Watch and Clock Collectors Club. He served on the board of the Willard House, Bristol Clock and Watch Museum, and was a member of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute.
Larry served on the Canton Finance Committee and was the first chairman of the Canton Capital Outlay and Planning Committee. Larry was Cub Master of Pack 77 for many years.
