News Notes: Town leaders to host STM info sessions

By

The Canton Select Board and Town Moderator Alan Hines will sponsor two information sessions next week to review the proposed acquisition of the St. Gerard’s Church property on Washington Street. A decision on the matter will be put before voters at a December 1 special town meeting and the Select Board is seeking input from residents on possible uses of the property.

On Tuesday, the Select Board met in executive session for 90 minutes to discuss possible dates for a special election, which would be the next step in the process if the proposal passes at STM. The first information session will take place on Monday, November 8, at 7 p.m. at CHS and the second session will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, November 10, at 7 p.m. The meeting ID for the Zoom session is 868-2541-3277 or residents can call 1-312-626-6799.

At both sessions, residents will be able to ask questions, or they can send them in advance to atm@town.canton.ma.us. Both forums will be streamed live and replayed by Canton Community TV.

Canton’s positive test rate, however, has been trending higher, spiking from 2.31 percent to 3.14 percent. The CDC transmission risk level remains at “substantial” and the town’s indoor mask mandate is still in effect.

In the Canton Public Schools, 14 new cases were reported from October 28 to November 3, including seven cases at the JFK Elementary School. Last week, 24 new cases were reported in the Canton schools and two-thirds of those (16) were at the JFK School.
