Leary, Alan M.
By Canton CitizenAlan M. “Jake” Leary passed away peacefully on November 9.
The second of eight children born to the late James A. and Adeline G. (Allen) Leary, Alan was born and raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Border Legionnaire in central Germany.
Alan worked for many years as a self-employed painter. He took great pride in his years of public service with the town of Canton, which included terms on the Personnel Board, School Committee, Board of Health, Zoning Board of Appeals, Charter Commission, Council on Aging, and Paul Revere Heritage Open Space Committee. He also joyfully served as a coach and board of director to Canton Little League and Canton Pop Warner Football. He also coached Canton Youth Hockey and Girls Recreation Softball.
Beloved husband for 57 years of the late Marie C. (Henriksen). Father of Laurie Manjikian and her husband, Raffi, of Belmont, A. Michael Leary of Canton, and Diane Leary of Mansfield. Proud “Bucka” of Haley and John M. Bougas, Sara, Raffi, Christian and Steffen Manjikian. Brother of Susan Sullivan and Judith Kincade of Canton, Brian Leary of FL, and the late James F., David P. and Patricia A. Leary and Marcia Ronayne. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held Monday in St. Oscar Romero Church (formerly St. John the Evangelist). Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
