Former CHS soccer standout shines at South Kent

By

After a highly successful senior season with the Bulldogs last fall, promising local soccer talent Abdul Barrie made even greater strides in 2021 as a post-grad player at South Kent School in Connecticut.

Canton’s Abdul Barrie poses with the NEPSAC trophy next to his South Kent teammates.

Last month, the Canton resident and 2021 CHS graduate helped lead the Cardinals to a New England prep school championship with a 3-0 victory over Westminster in the NEPSAC Class B final. A 6’5”, 190-pound center back, Barrie was instrumental in the shutout victory and anchored the defense all season for the powerhouse prep school program.

A highly ranked recruit, Barrie has played internationally both in Barcelona and Portugal and semi-pro in New England and is being scouted by several Division 1 colleges. He had secured a position on a professional soccer club in Norway last year but was unable to return to the country due to COVID restrictions, leading to his decision to play for South Kent.

Barrie has been invited to Germany for a tryout by one of the German clubs but is keeping his options open as he considers the next step in his soccer development.
