Silversmith Youth Theatre is a community theatre dedicated to the youth of Canton and the surrounding communities that is the brainchild of two parents whose kids longed for more community theatre experiences that were appropriate for their ages. Performers are between the ages of 8 and 18 with parent volunteers to facilitate the production. Silversmith Youth Theatre also encourages young people to become involved with the backstage production as well. They offer mentored backstage experiences, ranging from lighting to costuming to producing and stage managing to those interested.

For the holiday season, Silversmith Youth Theatre will proudly present An Enchanted Bookshop Christmas, written by Todd Wallinger, with permission from Pioneer Drama Service. The 25 youth actors range in age from 8-15 for this production and the majority are from Canton. For some it is their first production, and for others it is one of many in a storied theatrical career. All of them are learning more about community theatre while performing in this first production. It is interesting to note that this show was suggested by two young members of the group.

An Enchanted Bookshop Christmas is the story of Margie, who owns a charmed bookshop, accompanied by her sister and niece who come to find out this bookshop is extra special and book characters come to life when we think there is no one around. There are some extra special guests, including the man in the red suit.

The show opens on Friday, December 17, at 7 p.m., with additional shows on December 18 at 7 p.m. and December 19 at 5 p.m. All performances are at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1 Blue Hill River Road in Canton. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at www.silversmithyouththeatre.org.
