Gerald B. Gallagher, 87, of Canton, passed away January 4.

Born in Boston, he was raised in West Roxbury and graduated from Boston College High School. He went on to attend Tufts University, earned an associate’s in business from Johnson & Wales University and a bachelor’s from Northeastern University. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Raytheon in Norwood for 27 years and later worked for Motorola, Kodex, Allied Barton, and as a security officer for ADP before retiring.

Gerry was a proud member of the Canton Veterans Services Department, a member of the American Legion Post #24 in Canton, a member of the Canton Town Club, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Avon, and a coach for Canton Little League. He was also an active parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton where he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and an usher.

Beloved husband of Jean V. (Doody). Father of Gerald J. Gallagher and his wife, Denise, of Abingdon, MD, Stephen C. Gallagher and his wife, Kathleen, of Norwood, Jeanmarie Gallagher of St. Augustine, FL, Geralyn Hanson and her husband, Mark, of Stoughton, Patricia Mulcahy and her husband, William, of Taunton, Paul Gallagher and his wife, Rosemarie, of Milton, Susan Guernon and her husband, Guy, of St. Augustine, FL, Kristen Boone and her husband, Stephen, of Canton, and Brendan Gallagher and his wife, Cheryl, of Cumberland, RI. Brother of Marcia Cox of Norwood and the late Bruce and Charles “Terry” Gallagher. Also survived by 31 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held Wednesday in St. Oscar Romero Parish (formerly St. John the Evangelist) in Canton. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans Services Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021, or to St. Oscar Romero Parish, 700 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
