Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, he has lived in Canton for the past 51 years. Devoted husband of the late Edna MacDonald. Loving father of Brian S. MacDonald of Canton, Allyson M. Podgurski and her husband, James, of Canton, and Wayne A. MacDonald (CFD) of Canton and his girlfriend, Liz. Proud grandfather of Morgan, Jimmy, and Katie. Brother of Ronnie MacDonald and his wife, Josephine, and Sister Genevieve MacDonald, all of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He is also survived by his in-laws, Sister Bernice Smith, Gerry Andrews and his wife, Fran, and Lori Birt, all of Prince Edward Island, and Phyllis McQuaid of Nova Scotia, He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by siblings Isabel, Florence, Margaret, Buddy and his wife, Pauline, Frank, and Jean Taylor and her husband, Frank. Predeceased by in-laws Bert Smith and his wife, Eileen, Lucy Doyle and her husband, Bernie, Mary Reilly and her husband, Terry, Reg Smith, Anne Latimer, Marion Gilbert and her husband, Jack, Emma Dalton and her husband, Mel, Kay McKinnon and her husband, Bud, and Pat Smith and his wife, Marion.
Neil enjoyed watching the Bruins, watching Morgan playing sports, attending Jimmy’s hockey games, and playing cards with Katie. He enjoyed being at MacDonald’s Auto Repair shop, working side by side with his sons.
Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, on Friday, January 21, from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, in St. Oscar Romero Parish (formerly St. John the Evangelist), 700 Washington Street in Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Neil’s name may be made to Canton EMS Association, 99 Revere St., Canton, MA 02021, or L’Arche Cape Breton at www.larchecapebreton.org.
